GPRS Internet
Today I finally set up my laptop to use my cellphone’s GPRS connection for Internet access. It was so simple!
Well, since it’s a MacBook, that is. OS X has great support for Bluetooth built in. First, I selected the “Set Up Bluetooth Device…” option from the Bluetooth menu. Then, I selected “Mobile Phone”, and selected my phone from the device list. After that, I paired my phone and selected “Use with Address Book”, “Access the Internet with your phone’s data connection”, and “Use a direct, higher connection speed…”.
The next menu was where I put in the username and password. Since I use Cingular, I put my username (case sensitive) to “WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM”. For the password, I put “CINGULAR1”. Then, for the GPRS CID string, I put in “99*1#”. For the modem script, I used one I found here made for Cingular only. I saved it in my “/Library/Modem Scripts/” folder.
Now, I can browse the net anywhere I get cell phone coverage via Bluetooth and GPRS!
This site gave me all the info I needed on how to do this.
